65 Roses is how many children first learn how to say Cystic Fibrosis!

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited chronic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system of about 1200 children and adults in the Ireland (70,000 worldwide). Ireland has among some of the most severe strains of CF and also has the highest incidence (per head of population) of CF in the world, with three times the rate of the United States and the rest of the European Union.

♦ County Carlow Hospice ♦

The County Carlow Hospice charity was formed in 2009. It is their mission that those in our community suffering with terminal illnesses are provided with a care setting which allows them dignity and comfort in their final days. Their vision is that regardless of religion, culture or social circumstances, no one in the County Carlow community should have to face death or bereavement without appropriate care and support.

They are a voluntary group actively working to enhance existing facilities available to terminally ill people and their families in County Carlow. Towards this end, they are establishing a state of the art architecturally designed hospice unit at the District Hospital on the Athy Road in Carlow. The HSE fully support the project and will staff the unit. However, the provision is entirely dependent on voluntary contributions and fundraising.

The sod was finally turned in September 2016 and it is anticipated the project will be complete in six to seven months. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
